With the Green Bay Packers pounding the Chicago Bears on Sunday, the defending Super Bowl Champs locked up home field advantage throughout the NFC Playoffs. That leaves the Saints chasing the San Francisco 49ers for the two seed and a first round playoff bye.
Falcons @ Saints: NFC South Playoff Implications
New Orleans (11-3), who have already punched their playoff ticket, will need to win their final two games to secure second overall in the National Football Conference. The 49ers Week 16 win, 19-17 over the Seahawks, keeps the Niners in the two seed race.
Atlanta (9-5) is also in control of their own playoff destiny as they have secured at least a Wild Card berth. A win tonight, and at home against the imploded Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week, could win them the NFC South – if the Saints were to lose next weekend.
We don’t see that happening. The Falcons will be the fifth or sixth seed depending on Week 17 action. Atlanta is the fifth seed if they finish with the same record as the Detroit Lions.
