2010 NFL Week 1 Free Picks: Colts, Dolphins, Cowboys

Yeh! The 2010 NFL season is finally here! And this season, I’ll be blogging as a featured NFL bettor… …but with a twist. I’ve never wagered on NFL in my entire life! That said, with 12+ years of religiously studying the NFL, and more media passes to NFL events than most people I know, I’m confident I’ll have this figured out in no time. And the best part is that as I learn, you’ll learn with me.

2010 NFL Week 1 Free Picks: Colts, Dolphins, Cowboys

Texans @ Colts, Miami @ Buffalo, Cowboys @ Redskins

I’ll be using a strict unit betting strategy – so for any given bet, I will only use a certain % of my starting bankroll of $100, not counting the sign-up bonuses I got for opening accounts at the top sports betting sites listed in the Top 5 on this page.

Now here’s the obvious bit; Week 1 is famously hard to predict, so I’ll play it safe with my picks:

1) Indianapolis Colts -2  at Sportsbook.com

2) Miami Dolphins -3  at Bodog

3) Dallas Cowboys -3.5  at Sports Interaction

Indianapolis Colts –2 on Sportsbook.com

I have liked the Colts ever since arriving in Canada in 1998, Peyton’s 1st year. My initial feeling is that he is still wild after losing last year’s Super Bowl. And although this will be a close game, I think Payton will be able to lead his troops to a victory by a field goal or just a bit more.

It’s not to say I don’t have love for the Texans, because I had an amazing time there all week for Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004, but the –2 on Sportsbook.com was the deciding factor.

Miami Dolphins –3 at Bodog

Now that I’m living in the East of Canada if the Dolphins can’t beat the Bills I’ll go to Niagara Falls, look towards Buffalo, and damn well attempt to jump in!

The Bills? I have no dislike for any of the USA Bills fans but I got sick of watching them lose Super Bowls (the only NFL game I got to see each year) when I was younger in Australia. I love the NFL but I don’t want the NFL in Canada as I am also a huge CFL fan. I’m also pissed off at many of my NFL Bills mates in the “apparent center of the universe” TO (aka Toronto) that not only dislike the CFL but rip into the CFL while the other TO, Terrell Owens, even realized they were a bad team so he kept his mouth shut all year.

Now if it was cold and snowing and the “beach going” Dolphins players were all cold and scared I would give the Bills a chance. Dolphins RB Ricky Williams (also a former CFL Toronto Argonaut while he was not allowed in the NFL for smoking some ganja) has a great comeback story and I really got to liking this guy. $3 on Dolphins at –3 on Bodog.com.

Cowboys –3.5 on Sports Interaction

I haven’t always been a fan of the Cowboys but that’s changed over the last few years, especially since Aussie punter Mat McBriar, the Pro Bowler, started playing for them. Yeh yeh, I know, who cares about punters?! Well I do and there are three Aussies right now punting in the NFL! And several other punters now use the Australian Rules Football end over end “Drop Punt” kick for greater accuracy.

These 3 Aussie punters in the NFL will tackle and hit too, no problem. Washington, hmmm as a Broncos Mike Shanahan and Donovan McNabb fan I’m hoping they have a good year but Albert Haynesworth? What a big rich cry baby he is! A disgraceful performance by Albert, through and through. I hope Mike kicks him out as he must have been a massive distraction this season to date. I believe Dallas should win this game by 7-21. $3 on the Cowboys at –3.5 on Sportsinteraction.com.
