2010 NFL Week 2 Free Picks: Philadelphia, Over 48 NY Giants & Indianapolis

The only week that can be harder to pick than Week 1 is the second week of the NFL regular season. We have seen teams tear it up, and we have seen teams stink up the joint in their first games. However, one game doesn’t give us enough information to differentiate the contenders from the pretenders.

2010 NFL Week 2 Free Picks: Philadelphia, Over 48 NY Giants & Indianapolis

Philadelphia @ Detroit, NY Giants/Indianapolis total

The only week that can be harder to pick than Week 1 is the second week of the NFL regular season.  We have seen teams tear it up, and we have seen teams stink up the joint in their first games.  However, one game doesn’t give us enough information to differentiate the contenders from the pretenders.

This week’s card isn’t very spectacular.  After going 2-1 last week and profiting, we don’t want to risk too much on such a bad card.  This week, we are looking at only two plays and putting the same small 3% unit bet that we bet last week on each play:

1.       Philadelphia Eagles -6 at Bodog

2.       Over 48 in the NY Giants/Indianapolis Colts game at Sportsbook.com

Philadelphia -6 at Detroit

The Philadelphia Eagles’ game was the tale of two quarterbacks.  When Kevin Kolb went down with a concussion, Michael Vick came in and injected life into an offense that sputtered with Kolb under center.  With Kolb still recovering from the concussion, Vick will get the start.  Throwing for 175 yards and a touchdown, Vick also ran for 103 yards while guiding the Eagles within seven points of the Green Bay Packers.

The Detroit Lions had only 20 total rushing yards last week against the Chicago Bears.  They are also going to be led by quarterback Shaun Hill while Matthew Stafford is out for the next 4-6 weeks.  We have no faith in a quarterback who couldn’t beat out Alex Smith for San Francisco’s starting job.  The Eagles are giving less than a touchdown in a game that they should win by a touchdown or more.  We are taking them as six-point road chalk at Bodog.

NY Giants/Indianapolis Colts Over 48 Points

The Colts put up 24 points last week in their loss to the Houston Texans.  What makes us salivate at this over is the 34 points that the Texans run up on the Colts.  The Colts’ defense has been considered small for years and has no problem relying on Peyton Manning’s arm to pull out the win.  With safety Bob Sanders out for the rest of the season, the defense is primed to let up more points.

The Giant’s offense hung up 31 points on the Carolina Panthers.  As woeful as a team the Panthers are, they scored 18 points against the Giant’s defense.  The Colt’s have a much better offense and there is no reason they won’t put up 20-30 points themselves.  We are taking over 44 points at Sportsbook.com.
